The Jews

When we say “Jews”, we can mean members of the Jewish race or followers of the Jewish religion.

The Catholic Church has never had any problem with the Jewish race, as such. It wouldn’t want to – Jesus Christ Himself was a Jew, as was His Mother, all the Apostles and the first Christians! Throughout history there have been many other Catholic Jews.

But, the Catholic Church has always had a problem with the Jewish religion and always will. Why? Because it is a false religion which leads people away from God. And the Catholic Church’s business is to bring people to God.

Judaism was once the true religion. Its purpose was to give the Messiah or Saviour to the world and to prepare for His coming. Jesus Christ – the Messiah – came 2,000 years ago, but the Jews as a religious group rejected Him and still reject Him today. They maintain that the Messiah still has to come.

Now, God the Father said about Christ: “This is My beloved Son in Whom I am well pleased. Hear ye Him“. Christ said: “No man cometh to the Father, but by Me“. He also said: ” He that despiseth me, despiseth him that sent me“. Saint Peter said: “There is no other name [i.e. than Jesus Christ] under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved”. So, it’s absurd to say that the Jewish religion, as it is practised today, is good and pleasing to God.

Moreover, Judaism and Christianity are logically mutually exclusive. As the former Chief Rabbi of France, René Samuel Sirat stated: “One cannot, without abusing language, talk about a Judeo-Christian religion. You are either a Jew or a Christian”. Common sense, at least!

But, don’t Popes and bishops give the impression that Judaism is a good religion? Yes, it’s true that the authorities of the Church have been acting in this way since Vatican II. For example, Pope Francis recently scandalously stated in Evangelii Gaudium : ”We hold the Jewish people in special regard because their covenant with God has never been revoked“. However, Scripture and the constant Tradition of the Catholic Church up until the 1960′s say the exact opposite! Pope Eugene IV teaches: “The sacrosanct Roman Church … firmly believes, professes, and teaches that the matter pertaining to the Old Testament, of the Mosaic law, which are divided into ceremonies, sacred rites, sacrifices, and sacraments, because they were established to signify something in the future, although they were suited to the divine worship at that time, after Our Lord’s coming had been signified by them, ceased, and the sacraments of the New Testament began”.

So, we have a choice: either we accept the Word of God in the same way that our ancestors believed it, or we go along with new ideas which contradict it and which have no more basis than the wishful thinking of a few recent Popes and bishops and theologians.

As Catholics, our choice is made. We must reject Judaism as a false religion and have the charity to pray for and work towards the conversion of the Jews to the One, True Faith.
